FAQs About Dental Implants
Following are frequently asked questions and answers about dental implants.
What’s the cost of a dental implant?
The cost of a dental implant will vary widely, depending on whether it’s being used to replace a single tooth or a set of missing teeth. Essentially, there are two parts to the implant process: the surgeries to embed the implant into your bone and the fabrication of the replacement tooth / teeth. The surgery prices will depend on whether you need additional gum grafting or bone grafting. Regardless of what types of procedures you need, we work with you to maximize your dental insurance coverage, and we also offer financing through Care Credit.
Instead of a dental implant, how much would a bridge cost?
The cost of a porcelain bridge (which is actually made up of three replacement teeth) is often as much as, or more, than a dental implant.
Will dental insurance cover the cost of dental implants?
Your dental insurance plan might cover a portion of the cost of a dental implant. To find out exactly how much your dental implant will cost out-of-pocket, we can submit a pre-authorization form to your insurance company.
The likelihood of your dental benefits including coverage for dental implants depends largely on how generous your policy is, which is determined by how much you and/or your employer pay in monthly premiums. The better the insurance coverage, the better the chances dental implants are included.
How long will a dental implant last?
Many dental implants that were placed more than twenty years ago are still functioning well and look beautiful. The longevity of a dental implant will vary from patient to patient, but today’s implants can last 15 years or more with proper daily care and periodic dental exams.
Are dental implants used for a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth?
Both. One of the more common uses is with patients who are missing a tooth due to heredity – the primary tooth never grew in to replace the baby tooth. Dental implants are also a great solution for teeth lost to injury. They’re a far better answer than a flipper, which is essentially a retainer with false teeth attached. Finally, dental implants are sometimes preferable to dentures.
